It is amazing how Halloween has changed since I was a child. Back 35 to 40 years ago, a high voltage strobe light on my neighbor’s porch, and some spooky Walt Disney sound effects was all I needed to have the coolest Trick-o-Treats! This simple setup was just the preview to what we call Home Haunters today. By today’s standards, that is a lame attempt to entertain the kids. Or, is it that today’s Home Haunters are trying more to keep up with the Jones like what we see with Christmas décor.
One thing is for sure, today’s Home Haunters’ decorated houses rival the kind of high-tech entertainment that only professional Haunted Attractions have. You now have holographic type ghost illusions, talking/singing pumpkins, spooky looking props/scenes and animatronics that far surpass anything Walt Disney has in their Haunted Mansion. Some of them are mini Haunted Attractions in their own right!
In my time, there were no themes to haunting your porch. Now, the theme invades the whole house, from interiors to all parts of the yard and garage. And what themes! Horror, Gory, Aliens, serial killers and creatures from other dimensional whelms. With all these changes, where are all the adults?! Well, they are right next to their children running and screaming as they try to escape their neighbors dressed as monsters.
Oh yes, Halloween for trick-o-treaters has greatly changed. Changed from eerie sounds and blinking lights to a fantastic journey of high-tech themed effects rides; designed for both kids and adults.
